The role of the appetite-regulating hormone Leptin, in the modulation of the immune response to inflammation. Positions are available on CIHR & NSERC funded projects to work on the modulatory actions of leptin on immune mechanisms in the brain. One post-doctoral position is available immediately to continue work on our recently published observations on the regulation of neutrophil invasion by leptin (Rummel et al, 2010; Molec. Psychiatry,). A background in both in vivo (Physiological monitoring) and in vitro analytical techniques (immunohistochemistry, qPCR and immunoassays) will be highly desirable.
Graduate student projects are also available to work on the inflammatory actions of leptin on microglia (see Lafrance et al, Brain Behav Immun. 2010; 24:358-65) and on the role of this hormone in mediating the inflammatory response in obese subjects (Pohl et al Endocrinology. 2009;150(11):4901-10). Applicants with a background in Neuroscience, immunology or physiology would be preferred but individuals from other biological sub-disciplines will also be considered.
Interested candidates should send a complete CV including the names of three academic referees to Dr Giamal Luheshi (giamal.luheshi@mcgill.ca).
A post-doctoral position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Ji Zhang, at the Alan Edwards Centre for Research on Pain (McGill University), to participate in studies concerning the roles of glial cells and the impact of neuro-immune interaction in chronic pain. A person with significant background in rodent surgery/behavioral analysis, brain/spinal cord histology with confocal microscope skill is desirable. Practical experience in molecular biology is strongly preferred. It is essential that the candidate is self-motivated, organized and possess scientific problem solving skills. Excellent communication and presentations are required.
Interested candidates are invited to send a cover letter, CV and names of three references to: Dr. Ji Zhang via e-mail (Ji.Zhang@mcgill.ca).
