This McGill University Course is organized under the auspicious of our CIHR Training Program in Neuroinflammation and will deal with a number of aspects of neuroinflammation and brain diseases. The content of this course will range from an introduction to basic fundamentals of neuroimmune interactions and extend to discussions of the cell and molecular aspects underlying the pathology seen in various clinical conditions in which inflammation plays a key role. The unit will consist of 12 sessions of 3h duration. These sessions will be divided into three distinct blocks, each of which will be coordinated by one of the supervising faculty. The following topics related to neuroinflammation will be covered: neurodegenerative diseases, chronic pain, multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injury and cytokine involvement in obesity and mental illness. Students will be required to read assigned papers and make presentations on a weekly basis, which will count for 50% of the marks. The reminder 50% will be evaluated on a written 11-page grant proposal.
The course will be offered in the Fall session of 2010-2011, on Wednesday afternoon (1:00-4:00 PM), from September to December. Space is limited (we accept maximum 8 students). Registration will open shortly.
