POST-GRADUATE AWARDS
The Neuroinflammation Training Program sponsors multiple postgraduate awards each year to support postdoctoral fellows working full-time.
1) Award Categories (eligibility, level of support and award duration)
- Award amount is $20,000 per annum for 24 months maximum. The second year of funding is subject to the following conditions:
i) available funding for the training program;ii) receipt of a progress report from the trainee (and the supervisor)iii) evidence that the trainee has applied for another independent award during the first 10 months of this award or has previously held such an award.
- There will be 3 awards available to candidates who are studying neuroinflammation but whose supervisors are NOT co-PIs in the Training Grant. These candidates must be registered at either: McGill University, University of Montréal or INRS-Institut Armand-Frappier and they must be studying some element of neuroinflammation. These awards are in the amount of up to $20,000 per annum for post-doctoral fellows
2) Terms of the awards
- Awards are intended to cover only half of the trainee’s stipend. Trainees must have another source of research funding (e.g. funds from a defined operating grant) to cover the remainder of their stipend. The amount of matching funding applied must equal or exceed the contribution of the Training Program.
- Neuroinflammation Training Program awards may not be held concurrently with other major salary awards (i.e., any award that is intended to cover the stipend of the trainee). If the trainee is successful in obtaining another major award, the remaining strategic training money MUST be returned to the Training Program.
- As part of the Neuroinflammation Training Program, the trainee will be asked to present at a Training Program sponsored event. At the end of the full term of the award, the trainee will be required to provide a statement of his/her career plans and how the training award has prepared him/her for this career. An official progress report to meet this requirement will be made available. Supervisors will be eligible for future training grants only if and when previous trainees have filed this report.
- Supervisors WILL BE LIMITED TO SPONSORING TWO APPLICATIONS IN ANY GIVEN COMPETITION AND ONLY 2 FUNDED TRAINEES AT A TIME.
- Training awards may only be used for salary and not for travel, relocation, or other purposes.
- All presentations, abstracts and manuscripts must acknowledge support of the Neuroinflammation Training Program
